The panels needed a highly accurate acoustic slot and groove detail whilst being light enough to secret fix and be fitted at height. Morland took up the challenge and have supplied over 250m2 of paneling that achieves the performance criteria of D & B Audiotechnik GMBH.

Andrew Warren said: “We are pleased to demonstrate that our “performance fit out product” badge can be applied to wall panels as much as to door-sets. We do lots of acoustic rated door sets and thousands of wall panels but this is the first time we have supplied acoustic panels. The acoustics in the room where the panels are fitted is to a world class standard and Morland is delighted to have worked on such a prestigious project.

The only claim of sustainable forestry that is recognised is an audited “chain of custody” scheme. If the details of the certificate are not stated on the delivery note from your supplier then there is no “chain of custody”. It is all too easy for a supplier to give lip service to environmental concerns.

Morland is stating its 15mm lightweight furniture ply is from a sustainable source, and we can prove it.”

International hotel chain citizenM has a unique approach to achieving high quality, stylish accommodation at low prices. Their answer lies in the construction method – ‘Industrial Flexible Demountable’ – where the rooms are pre-made off-site. This ensures that citizenM’s rooms are of a comparable quality to that of a luxury yacht or private jet. Only the best materials are used and the modular system combines functionality with comfort and design.

Corus Living Solutions and John Sisk and Son Ltd are the joint venture partners fabricating these rooms for citizenM. The citizenM design has a zebrano wood grain on both the floor and on the ceiling above the enormous bed.

Morland was invited to tender for the supply of the panels and worked with Corus Living Solutions to deliver a panel system that had the best possible yield from the raw materials with the minimum amount of joints possible. The resulting product is part of a stunning fit out completed within the Corus Living Solutions factory on Deeside. Andrew Warren, Commercial Director of Morland, commented on the project: “Morland is here to make fit out simple and we focus on offering timber based fit out packages to the off site industry. Whether it is case goods for a student bedroom, performance door sets for a SLAM project or as in the case of citizenM, unique bespoke product to a demanding specification, we can help”.

Production started in August just as the Italian laminate plants close for a month but our logisitics ensured we had the stock in place to meet the call off from Corus. In eight weeks we delivered 800 panels just-in-time to the production line.

A Case study on how Morland allowed a fabricator to switch from a Euro-based supplier to a sterling-based supplier without disruption. In 2009 The UNITE Group plc, (the UK’s leading student accommodation provider) needed to resource the supply of some case goods from a Continental supplier to a UK based source.

Ian Bird, Procurement Vendor Manager takes up the story. “We looked at Morland as a possible source for the items in question, but had no trading history with them. The parts would appear to be simple, but differences in board thickness between the Continent and the UK and a lack of good quality drawings in English meant that there was a fair amount of technical support required. Morland took over the drawing requirement quickly understanding our working methods which allowed us to move the supply without any disruption to our process. Since switching, Unite have not only had the benefit of a UK based supplier, but lead times and hence our stockholding have been reduced and Morland’s delivery performance has been very responsive.”

Andrew Warren Commercial Manager of Morland states: “ We are focused on meeting the requirements of the off site construction industry, especially fabricators who fit out. Unite are advanced in their methods of delivering a fully finished room and Morland are proud to have established a trading relationship with Unite in 2009. We hope to work with them for many years to come”.

Morland launches a new range of stocked light weight boards as an alternative to a German-supplied plywood product. Morland announces its intention to offer a stock range of light weight boards decorated with a hard wearing laminate. The product is ideal for camper vans, horse boxes, motorhomes and caravan interiors.

The range will be available in two thicknesses, 15mm and 3mm. On the 15mm the decoration will be on both faces and on one face for the 3mm. The sheet size will be 2440 x 1220mm.

The core will be ilomba-faced poplar plywood which has a density of approximately 440kg/m3, making it ideal as a sheet material where weight is a concern. The laminate is a lightweight laminate adding only 1kg per side, compared to High Pressure Laminate which would add 3kgs.

The colours in the initial range will be a mixture of wood grains and abstracts.

Eric Dowlman, Business Development Manager said “Historically there has been a German manufacturer supplying the UK distributors and end users for this type of board. Consequently, like the name Hoover with vacuum cleaners, their name is often used when a poplar plywood with a laminate decoration is required. Morland entering the market will provide a UK-based manufacturer. Morland understands the requirement for a tough scratch resistant board that is as light as possible. Morland will sell in sterling with short lead times”.

Andrew Warren, Commercial Manager for Morland confirmed that “On top of having FSC and PEFC certification for fully finished door sets, this now allows us to make the claim that we can deliver door sets that will keep both the ‘eco-police’ and the fire officer happy”.

Using the Halspan Technical Guide for certification, all of Morland door frames are made with laminated MDF and the door set is supplied fully finished, eradicating issues such as paint on smoke seals.

Commercial Manager for Morland, Andrew Warren, confirmed that “The product can be installed with absolute assurance it meets the criteria of both the fire officer and the eco police”.
