Background - Wrapping profiles involves a significant set-up time, so like printing short production runs are not cost effective. Conversely many caravans have a multitude of designs and parts with differing finishes that are required for a “season”.
The Problem - To maximise the production run whilst minimising the inventory value and the risk of obsolete stock write offs.
The Solution - Morland invested in a powerful MRP system and manage all of their raw materials, work in progress and finished goods on the system. By interogating customers production programmes Morland can look weeks in advance and calculate the best option in terms of production quantity. Without the security of a purchase order this is more risky but it enables Morland to deliver both cost effective supplies and 100% on time deliveries.
